Obssessed : Turtle Neck x Plum Lips

Winter is my favourite season, mainly because I can layer as well as wear my favourite turtle neck. A staple piece which can be worn up or down. It has come along way since the days of the Black Panthers and icons such as Angela Davis and Andy Warhol and it has never been out of style. I love that it can look great on any one. This is just something fun to say "hey, I really love my turtle neck, watch me pose in it". :)

Old School Cool : Lebo Mathosa - Ntozabantu

I remember how much I really loved this song. Okay, I was probably a little too young to pay attention to lyrical content - she speaks in isiZulu. However, I know there was something about the catchy tune and futuristic video that grabbed the attention.

This is just my way of paying homage of the late and great Lebo Mathosa (of the first pop group Boom Shaka). She played a significant role in moving female artists in South Africa into creating edgier music. Halala Lebo! Enjoy :)

Skin.

Skin so brown , lips so plump,
never tongue-tied but turban tied up like the way queens walk up right,
flaws scattered on the highest of cheekbones,
she is Africa, she is pride,
she is me.

Aamito x Kenzo Campaign

Ugandan beauty with the most interesting features has been taking the fashion world by storm with her statuesque build and form, she has gone from small town girl to opening for designers like Balenciaga this year. Designers and brands have been kicking it up in terms of showcasing new faces and talent- Kenzo did just that, the dark leggy beauty emerges like an exotic bird in a tropical jungle clad in new gear from Parisian brand Kenzo. I immediately obsessed over this campaign when I read about it and think that Aamito is a perfect fit for the new campaign. Here are some of my favourite pictures from the deliciously sweet feature.

Before we exhaled : Personal Work

Browsing through my phone I found a collection of "unused" photos taken from my first five months since moving to Cape Town. It's safe to say that my fixation with dark exposure in images and how a simple object can tell a story inspired me. I took it upon myself to be more experimental with this blog this year and take a few risks. See, I am no photographer but I live to capture moments, places and those special bursts of beauty that happen by mistake once the lens is focused. (Or not focused). These rare occasions of expression I would best describe as what happens just as we are about to "breathe out".

These photos were all taken by me in the past 5 months and I have tried to keep them in their natural form as much as possible. I hope you find the name of the post fitting and perhaps one day, with a leap of faith I will develop these and turn them into an exhibition piece. Baby steps right? We are all on the journey to growing and constantly evolving. I invite you to come along with me on my journey.
